Every week during the 2022 NFL season, we take a look at the early line movements in the NFL and try to make sense of them. Here are some of the NFL’s biggest line moves so far for Week 7:

Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Carolina Panthers

Opening Line: TB -9.5

Current Line: TB -13

The Bucs were a -10 point favorite last week, but lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers 20-18. QB Tom Brady has not been great this year, but much of that can be attributed to poor offensive line play. Brady let his O-line know about it during the game on Sunday...

The Panthers got beat by the Rams last week 24-10. Third string QB PJ started for the Panthers and struggled mightily - only managing to throw for 60 yds. The Panther’s lone bright spot was the performance of star RB Christian McCaffery, who had 158 total yds from scrimmage. A few days after that showcase performance, McCaffery was traded to the SF 49ers.

The Panthers are the worst team in the league, and they just traded away their best players. This is an easy line move to explain: bettors are fading a tanking Panthers team that has seemingly given up.

New York Jets @ Denver Broncos

Opening Line: Den -3

Current Line: pk

The Broncos dropped their third game in a row last week, losing to the LA Chargers 19-16. The Broncos made significant changes to their team over the offseason, and none of them seem to be working out. Coach Nathaniel Hackett is already on the hotseat.

The New York Jets upset the Green Bay Packers last week 27-10. The Jets appear to be a team on the rise. Their offense has improved since the return of QB Zach Wilson, but the team’s identity is shaped by their improved defense.

This line move can be attributed to Russell Wilson’s hamstring injury and his questionable status going into the game on Sunday. Bettors also don’t mind fading a head coach, Nathaniel Hackett, who seems to be incompetent.
